Engr. Akinwunmi Akinfemiwa is the CEO of Geregu Power Plc, one of Nigeria’s leading power generation companies. With over 22 years of experience in power generation, petroleum trading, and energy markets, he has built a distinguished career in both local and international markets. As former Group CEO of Forte Oil Plc, Akinfemiwa transformed the company from a moribund entity into a thriving business valued at over $300 million, with more than 450 outlets across Nigeria. He has held key leadership roles, including Chairman of Forte Upstream Services, Chairman of the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN), and Director at African Petroleum Ghana.
As CEO of Geregu Power, Engr. Akinfemiwa has enhanced the company’s operations to transform it into a major player in Africa’s power industry. Under his leadership, the company currently generates 435 MW (about 10%) of Nigeria’s electricity, from its eco-friendly gas turbine plant in Kogi State. He is also pioneering the integration of renewable energy, with plans to expand Geregu’s capacity to 1,300 MW. Under his leadership, Geregu became the first power company listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange and is now valued at over $1 billion.
The Oxford University Alumnus has made CSR a cornerstone of Geregu’s operations, focusing on supporting education, community safety, youth empowerment, and infrastructure development in underserved areas. Akinfemiwa’s groundbreaking contributions to the entire Energy sector value chain earns him AfriHeritage’s ‘African Business Titan Award of the Year’.
