One thing African leaders, both contemporary and past, have never shied away from admitting is the perpetual and stubborn existence of traces of chains of colonialism in our system. It is unpretentiously glaring — staring at us audaciously, hung in our economic, political and cultural life. The unbroken shackles sadly remind us of centuries of economic exploitation and depravity, conquest and subjugation, slavery and mockery of the very essence of our existence as Africans, even though we have been told that colonialism was long ended. One man, who many believe is top among the most powerful Africans today, has however risen, picked up the gauntlet to challenge the unjust perpetuation of colonialism in the 21st century, packaged in a seemingly “modernized” approach. President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, embodies courage and a rekindled hope in the general quest for the liberation of black race from prolonged bondage of imperialism.
