Abubakary Jawara is a famous Gambian businessman and philanthropist. He is the Founder and CEO of GACH. Jawara spent two years buying goods from Hong Kong to Angola, where he lived. Those who are not fond of him presume Dr. Jawara as a mysterious figure, flamboyant and showy, but those who know his life tapestry can avow that he is a good man whose heart is full of love and compassion. A businessman by profession, Jawara came to greater prominence after the fall of former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh, setting up the GACH tomato factory before spreading his muscles into sand mining. Apart from tomato, juice, and mineral water products, the factory has the capacity to produce mango juice. He was 18 when he left for Angola and then China, where he made a fortune, and is today one of the richest men in the country. Dr. Jawara, who has won a number of national and international awards, including Gambian Philanthropist of the Year three times, says he prefers to grow his business slowly and to add products when he can afford to do so. Jawara is also in black sand mining.
