Ethiopian Airlines, Ibom Air, Africa’s premium carriers with a proven track record of discipline, consistency & topnotch customer service.

Before commercial passenger aviation took off in Africa in the 1920s, air service operations was largely controlled by airlines based in Europe and the United States, or by colonial governments. Air France, Imperial Airways, and Deutsche Lufthansa were the leading carriers at the time. But as new nations attained their independence, the establishment of national airlines became necessary to shore up national pride. National airlines were needed to easily connect regions underserved by rail and road infrastructure. Most importantly, they served as symbols of national identity, economic expansion, technological advancement, modernity, and to fly the flags of newly independent nations within their borders and overseas.
